Five-hour novobiocin test for differentiation of coagulase-negative staphylococci.

چکیده
A 5-h broth disk test, read visually for growth or no growth to determine resistance of coagulase-negative staphylococci to 1.6 micrograms of novobiocin per ml, was evaluated as a rapid test for the presumptive identification of Staphylococcus saprophyticus. The correlation with an overnight disk diffusion test was 100%.

Effect of different media on determination of novobiocin resistance for differentiation of coagulase-negative staphylococci.
Species identification of coagulase-negative staphylococci often requires the determination of novobiocin susceptibility. Although previous investigators have recommended the use of P agar for this purpose, most clinical laboratories do not routinely utilize this medium. For this reason, studies were performed to compare novobiocin susceptibility results obtained with 11 different species of st...
متن کاملCharacteristics of coagulase-negative staphylococci that help differentiate these species and other members of the family Micrococcaceae.
One hundred reference strains and 1,240 clinical isolates representing 26 species of the family Micrococcaceae were used to evaluate the potential of tests for synergistic hemolysis, adherence to glass, pyroglutamyl-beta-naphthylamide hydrolysis, and susceptibility to a set of five antimicrobial agents for differentiating these species and strains within the species. Sixty-eight percent of the ...
متن کاملRapid, automated identification of novobiocin-resistant, coagulase-negative staphylococci.
A modified automated method that uses the MS-2 system (Abbott Laboratories, Diagnostics Div., Irving, Tex.) to verify the reaction of coagulase-negative staphylococci to novobiocin is described. This technique permits the testing of a great number of specimens in an average time of 99 min and results in a 100% match with the traditional method of culturing.
متن کاملSimple and economical method for speciation and resistotyping of clinically significant coagulase negative staphylococci.
An attempt was made to speciate 102 clinically significant isolates of coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS) by a practical scheme adapted from various references. This scheme utilizes slide and tube coagulase test, urease test ornithine decarboxylase, novobiocin susceptibility and aerobic acid from mannose for assigning species group. Inclusion of one or two additional tests in a species gro...
متن کاملComparison of Disc Diffusion and E test methods for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Of Vancomycin in Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus Isolated from Blood Culture
Background and Objective: Reliable methods of detection of antimicrobial resistance are of paramount importance in the treatment and management of infections caused by coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS). The objective of the present study was to compare and evaluate the performance of disc diffusion and E test (Epsilometer test) methods for antimicrobial testing of coagulase ne...
